Princess Maria Laura of Belgium, niece of King Philippe, has announced her engagement to William Isvy, a British investment banker.

The royal, 33, who lives in London, wore a black floral gown as she showed off a dazzling diamond and sapphire ring in engagement photos released by the palace.

The wedding will take place in the second half of 2022, a statement released today revealed.

Maria Laura, is the daughter of Princess Astrid – the eldest daughter of King Albert – and her husband Prince Lorenz, head of the House of Austria-Este. Princess Astrid is the younger sister of Philippe of Belgium, the current monarch.

Maria Laura is also the granddaughter of Albert II of Belgium, who abdicated in 2013 for health reasons.

William Isvy was born in Paris to a British mother and a Franco-Moroccan father but spent most of his childhood in London.

Who is Princess Maria Laura of Belgium?

Princess Maria Laura is the daughter of Princess Astrid of Belgium and Prince Lorenz of Belgium, head of the Austria-East branch of the House of Habsburg-Lorraine.

His grandfather is King Albert II of Belgium, who abdicated in 2013, and his uncle – his mother’s older brother is King Philippe of Belgium – the current king.

She is ninth on the throne but rarely performs official duties.

William studied at the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle, before going to McGill University in Montreal to obtain a financial license. After graduation he worked in mergers and acquisitions for a US investment bank and now works in asset management.

Maria Laura was raised away from the royal limelight and grew up in Bazel, Switzerland, until the age of five when her father worked for an international bank.

Alongside his siblings – Prince Amedeo, Prince Joachim. Princess Luisa Maria md Princess Laetitia Maria she was raised apart from royal duty and rarely appears in public engagements.

In 1993, his family moved to Villa Schonenberg, part of the Domaine Royal de Laeken. During her stay she attended St. John Berchmans College in Brussels and. John’s International School in Waterloo, Belgium.

She then studied Sinology and International Relations in Paris, and obtained a Masters in International Relations and Diplomacy from SOAS. University of London.

After graduation, she interned at the UN in New York and worked for Louis Vuitton in Shanghai.

She has been spotted at some official events, including the annual mass to commemorate the late members of the Belgian royal family – and joined her mother on official trips to China.
