to rewards, Mike Firmageco-founder and managing director of Horizon Partners, was named Investment Banker of the Year.

Since co-founding Horizon with Sandy Kory in 2010, Firmage pioneered a bespoke craft M&A advisory model, creating highly customized deals like the conceptualized and executed double buyout structures for Horizon clients like DistroKid (former award-winning deal) and Spatial Networks, which also received top honors at this year’s gala. This significant recognition comes a year after Firmage was named Boutique Investment Banker of the Year by the M&A Atlas Awards for its innovation in deal strategy, process and structuring.

“These winners are the stars of the year, representing the best deals and the best professionals in the M&A industry,” said Roger Aguinaldo, Founder of The M&A Advisor. “It’s been a challenging time, but also a time of M&A activity, and these professionals have risen above the noise executing deals worth hundreds of billions of dollars in enterprise value.”

At the gala, Firmage and its Horizon Partners team also received the Information Technology Deal of the Year Award for their work on the recapitalization of Spatial Networks by Kayne Partners and Kennet Partners, developers of the category-building application Fulcrum. In the transaction, Firmage designed and architected the combination of a leading growth buyout firm that had historically focused on small buyouts and a leading growth equity investor that had traditionally focused on minority investments. In doing so, he successfully brought to the Spatial Networks Board of Directors a group of investors who would provide a diversity of thought, experience, insight and expertise uncommon in deals in this category. Regarding Mike’s work on his transaction, the founder of Spatial Networks Tony Quartararo noted:

“In addition to delivering a terrific outcome and innovative deal structure, Mike took the time to really understand who I am, what my underlying motivations were (and weren’t) and what I ultimately wanted to get out of the transaction. He understood that brutal honesty and integrity was paramount to me and my team, and he honored that throughout the process, even educating me and bringing to light developments that were sometimes less than This quality of character allowed us to remain professional relationships and friends long after the closing of our transaction, an added bonus to a very successful exit.”

Of the Investment Banker and Deal of the Year awards, Firmage said, “I am extremely grateful to be recognized for the innovations and results that I have dedicated to the architecture of my career and I am grateful to my colleagues and customers past and present for their contributions to the efforts resulting in such honor. It takes a host of dedicated, hard-working professionals to create award-winning results, and I am grateful to work with people of this caliber at Horizon and in our client companies.

These awards come after a run where the Horizon Partners team won “Deal of the Year” honors at the M&A Atlas Awards and M&A Advisor Awards for Silversmith and Spotify’s acquisition of a majority stake in DistroKid and the acquisition of Mathway by Chegg. In addition to these accolades, Horizon Partners was recently named “Boutique Investment Bank of the Year” in successive award seasons from 2019 to 2020 at the M&A Atlas Awards.
